Every human is born with a beautiful mind, full of curiosity and playfulness and creativity and empathy. I stay mentally active by consuming books, plays, movies, NPR, the New York Times and stories of all kinds. I don't know if chocolate builds my mind, but it makes me happy.
After a career in book publishing, talk radio, nonprofit marketing and fundraising, I needed to see what new thing would sprout and grow. It turned out to be storytelling. I've challenged myself to learn stories and perform them on stage. I also create new recipes, sing, and walk every day.
Improvising on stage you learn to listen for the possibilities embedded in what the other players onstage are doing, and to say "yes" to those ideas. I try to take those lessons into the rest of my life. Have fun. Do what you like to do. Don't be afraid to fail.
