The Physically Active Mind
Your physical health impacts your brain health
Exercise significantly improves your health in many ways — from helping to maintain a healthy weight and keeping cholesterol levels in check, to maintaining good blood flow to the body and encouraging growth of new brain cells and connections.
Give your body — and your brain — a good workout
A healthy body is the key to a healthy brain. Make a commitment today to get your body and your brain working together.
Here are some helpful tips for a physically active mind:
- Engage in physical activity for at least 30 minutes a day to encourage new brain cells and connections. Walk, play sports, take the stairs instead of the elevator, or do something you enjoy outdoors.
- Don't lose any sleep over your physical health — try to get approximately seven to eight hours of sleep each day.
- See your doctor regularly to help monitor your health and ensure you're in tip-top shape.
- Don't smoke!
- Maintain a healthy weight to minimize your risk for diabetes, high cholesterol and hypertension
